First, if you have a current tan or darker skin tone, IPL is not a good option. IPL recognizes the color of pigmentation including brown, pink, purple and redness and wants to remove these colors. If your whole face is dark or tan, IPL can cause a blister.
However, IPL is very safe and effective on skin that does not have a tan even if you have lots of brown spots and redness. You can expect your pigmentation to look darker after IPL almost immediately. Look at the photos and see how much darker the pigmentation looks. You can apply makeup at this time to conceal this. The sun spots will lift to the surface of the skin and start falling off in about 7-10 days (your skin is not peeling). The redness and broken capillaries will shrink over time. In about three weeks you can see the full results from IPL as the pigmentation is cleared and the redness diminished.
