If we say “filler”, many people know that word well. If we say “sculptra”, a lot less people know about this treatment. Sculptra Aesthetic has been a remarkable treatment that has been FDA approved for years. Sculptra has unique qualities and is not your average type of filler. In fact, Sculptra is a biostimulatory filler and stimulates collagen production giving you firmer skin and lifting of the lower face. In addition, Sculptra continues to work over many months and will outlast the HA filler.
In this before and after photo, our injection specialist, Loraine Savarese, states “I’m very comfortable with both Sculptra and filler and I used them both to smooth and lift her folds, wrinkles and skin as well as create collagen rebuild and stimulation for a longer lasting result. The fillers played one role in this transformation and the Sculptra played a completely different role and the end result of this facial rejuvenation is profound. Both of us could not be happier with her results. I’m so thrilled to see this type of transformation and knowing that it will last a long time is a huge bonus. I’ve been injecting patients since 2003, been a trainer of injectables for a long time and I’m excited that we have these treatment options. Sculptra is not performed in Delaware as much as it should be and I’m surprised by that. It is a go to treatment that patients value and appreciate very much.”
HA fillers like Restylane, Juvederm and Revanesse Versa are injected for lines and wrinkles, depressions and facial contour improvement and will provide an immediate result. HA fillers come prepacked in syringes and the number of filler syringes used will be determined by the total area of concern you would like to address. HA filler treatment can also fake better bone structure to help define the facial features like the jawline and chin. These fillers are made of a gel like substance that also can be dissolved if needed (interesting fact). HA fillers are very popular choices for lips, nasolabial folds, under the eye depressions, downturn of the mouth corrections, to lift the cheeks and more. They provide an instant result and gratification!
Sculptra in contrast is not a gel and looks more like water. The active ingredient in Sculptra Aesthetic is Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) which builds new collagen. Sculptra comes to the office looking like a power and sterile water is added before treatment to bring the product to life. Unlike filler, Sculptra is injected all over the lower face (including temples) and the main objective is to get that stimulating active ingredient, PLLA, all over. Sounds scary to get injections “all over” but it a well tolerated procedure with only a few injection sites. The magic of Sculptra is that it will gradually build new collagen, lift the face and strengthen the skin. You will see an immediate change after Sculptra that can be attributed to the water. Most patients love the immediate after look. It is temporary and the face goes back to normal in a few days. Sculptra is done in a series of injections and requires about 6 vials total. The results of Sculptra can last for years and that is the true payoff. In fact, Sculptra results will get better 6-12 months after the last treatment! Sculpra is also an awesome option for crepey skin on the face.
