Do you feel like your lips are overly filled or that you have duck lips after getting filler? Do you want to start fresh after having filler injections for years? At Charmed Medispa, we thrive on the opportunity to educate you on all your choices for fillers and removal of dermal filler by dissolving them and letting you know which treatment is appropriate.
What we have learned is that filler can last longer than expected in addition to the fact that fillers rebuild collagen. This can lead to having more filler in a location than desired, specially lips which is the most common area. When this occurs, the lips can look overly filled and duck or sausage like. Fortunately, most fillers can be removed and dissolved with hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase only dissolves filler that is made from hyaluronic acid like Juvederm, Restylane and Versa. There are semi-permanent fillers like Radiesse and Bellafill that cannot be removed or dissolved with hyaluronidase. It’s important to know what type of filler is being used when you get injections.
The process for removing and dissolving lip fillers and other areas of the face starts with a numbing cream or local anesthetic, a patch test is done to ensure you are not allergic to the dissolving agent and if negative (never seen a positive result to date) then the dissolving agent is injected into the lips or elsewhere. Afterwards, massage is performed to distribute the hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase works quickly. In fact, some patients will have results within a few hours. There can be an emotional component after having lips or facial filler dissolved and some patients want filler right away to start over on their lip journey. You can expect some wrinkles and lines to return within the lips and to look “deflated”. Your body will produce some return of collagen within a few weeks and sometimes this result is enough and patients do not want any additional lip filler. If you want to get refilled, patients need to wait at least one to two weeks depending on the case and how much filler they had. At Charmed Medispa, we do not encourage refilling to be done the same day as filler removal and dissolving. You need to let your lips settle down with swelling before you can accurately refill, plus the dissolving agent is still in that area.
Patients might need more than one session of dissolving especially dependent on the type of filler that was originally injected. There are fillers that can be removed and dissolved easier than other fillers. Our nurse injector can walk you through the process of dissolving filler and make sure you are comfortable with the plan before treatment.
In addition to dissolving lip and facial filler, Charmed Medispa specializes in Botox, laser hair removal, hydrafacials, chemical peels, lip flip, facials and skin tightening.
