All filler is not considered equal. Fillers are complex. There are fillers that have more strength and fillers that have more flexibility. Some fillers are good for movement and expression and some are designed for precision and structure. That’s why it’s very important that our aesthetic specialist injector, Loraine, is very knowledgeable about the rheology of dermal fillers and is able to choose the right filler for the right application.
For instance, Restylane Lyft is a very good filler to lift and contour the cheeks and deeper nasolabial folds. Restylane Lyft is also used for the jawline and chin area. The consistency of Restylane Lyft is very different than the consistency of Restylane. There are 10,000 larger molecules of hyaluronic acid per 1 ml in Restylane Lyft as compared to 100,000 smaller hyaluronic acid molecules in regular Restylane. If you inject Restylane Lyft into the cheeks it will last longer than the smaller molecules of Restylane and give a better “lift”.
Products like Restylane Lyft should not be used in the lips. The molecules of hyaluronic acid are too large and the lips will be stiff and unnatural. A more appropriate product for the lips is Versa or Juvederm Ultra. Versa and Juvederm Ultra integrate into the lip tissues better and the products are smoother with natural looking results and feeling.
Some fillers are more flexible than others including Restylane Defyne and Restylane Refyne. These products are wonderful for treating dynamic lines like lip lines as well as smile lines. Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are softer than other fillers. They blend into the skin smile and move with you.
Sculptra Aesthetic is a unique product that can be called a filler. Sculptra Aesthetic is made of poly-l-lactic acid which is essentially ground up dissolvable suture material. This active ingredient is blended with sterile water and then the watery like solution can be injected into the lower face. Sculptra Aesthetic acts to stimulate your own collagen causing stronger skin, less wrinkles and less sagging. In addition, thin faces can often get fuller looking and less gaunt.
