The most popular injection at Charmed Medispa is lip filler and the injection that gives our patients the most anxiety is, also, lip filler. There are so many concerns patients have about having lip filler and most patients start off being petrified of pulling the lip filler trigger. Let’s review what to expect with lip filler so that your comfort level goes high and you will stop talking about lip filler and actually do it.
The biggest misconception with lip filler is that you will look filled or done or ducky after filler. Frankly, adding only one syringe of filler like Juvederm or Restylane will only make you plumper and smoother and will not augment your actual size. One syringe of filler is the size of one small blueberry and if you used half on the upper lip and lower lip, that is not that much volume whatsoever. 80% of our patients are happy with one syringe of filler and 20% would actually prefer even more filler in two weeks. Your biggest risk than is wanting more filler not less.
Filler can be customized and occasionally we start with a mini-syringe of filler if that is the patient’s comfort level. A mini-syringe sometimes is a way of easing into lip filler. The biggest risk with a mini-syringe is the high likelihood that you might want more or that your results of lip filler will be cut in half. No matter what, Charmed Medispa can work with you on finding your comfort level.
Lip filler cannot alter your lips natural shape but it can compliment it. Patients come in with pictures of celebrities and often times there is no way they can get that result from filler because their lips not that same size or shape in the natural. Lip filler can define the lip border, crisp the borders, add height to cupid’s bows and even turn the corner’s of the mouth up more. If a patient does want a less natural look and more of an augmentation of the lips, our provider will review that goal and see if that would be appropriate.
Lip fillers last 6-9 months and also will rebuild collagen so eventually lip filler will last longer and longer. Our patients will graduate to every 9 months and then once a year. You can expect some swelling and bruising after lip filler so be prepared for that. The lip filler we use often has less swelling than primary fillers like Juvederm or Restylane.
