You could be suffering from rosecea. Rosecea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes redness and even bumps on the skin surface. Other symptoms include stinging and burning of the face, patches of dry skin, larger pores, and bumps on your eyelids. Rosecea can even look like acne and can get better and worse depending on many things like sun exposure, stress, diet and more. Rosecea tends to flare and then calm down and then flare again.
What are the treatments for rosecea? The first step might be a visit to your dermatologist. A dermatologist can prescribe topical and even oral medications to help reduce the inflammatory response. Some of our patients have found good improvement with this and do not go on to have any other therapies.
At Charmed Medispa, the most common treatment for rosecea and broken capillaries is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL is a light treatment that recognizes and treats broken capillaries, redness and sun spots. IPL of the face is one of the most commonly performed treatments at Charmed. IPL will feel like a rubber band snap meanwhile cold air is used at the same time making you comfortable. The broken capillaries will start to shrink and the sun spots will actually look darker when you are done. After a week, the sun spots will literally fall off your skin without any peeling. The capillaries will start to fade. The skin will be less ruddy and blotchy. The golden rule to have IPL is not to have any tan when you come for your appointment. If you are committed to not tanning, IPL can be done in the summer. There is no downtime with IPL but you might have some swelling that can be managed with ice.
